A tube shaft plays an essential role in the lift system of a garage door. The long tube is held in place by three bearing plates that are fastened to the wall. The bearings allow the tube to spin freely as torque is applied by the spring(s). At the ends of the tube you will find cable drums that reel in the cables and thereby lifting the garage door.
Do not try to substitute any other tube or pipe other than one made specifically for garage doors. Tube shaftss come in varying lengths depending on the actual width of the door. The length you will need is approximately the width of your door plus an extra 9 inches.
